Saratoga Epilogue and the Hopeful

Never had such a bad season with so few tickets cashed. Went days without cashing. I never did get into a groove, so there wasn't much sense in sending out a Doghouse Confidential when doing so poorly. Nothing was working; even abandoned my computerized numbers.

Over the Labor Day weekend, I didn't cash a ticket from Friday to Sunday. On Monday morning, I did my computerized numbers that led me to the California invader, Ralis, in the 10th race Hopeful at 4-1 morning line, from the connections of I'll Have Another who won the Derby and Preakness a few years ago. The Hopeful is for 2 year old colts whom the owners and trainers "hope" will make it to the Kentucky Derby.

At the track, I didn't cash a ticket again through the first nine races. Then came the Hopeful that Ralis won easily and paid over $15 to win. Had the double ($40) and the Grand Slam ($161) - ten times each. So I collected over $2000. Certainly brought me back but not even for the meet. Ironic that I hit the Hopeful. Gives me some reason to hope to do better!

Early Pick 4 Posted for Sunday, August 30

Well, American Pharoah finally lost. Never thought he was a real 10f horse, only better than everyone else he faced to date. Maybe the three year olds aren't very good. Did hit a saver triple (only win I had all day).

Really like 3 Groupthink in the third race today. Claimed by a smart outfit in last, ready to go just 11 days later.

Posted an early Pick 4 today. Should be a shorty. Just go to the Meet Mr. X page and click on the red Doghouse Confidential button.

Travers Pick 4 Posted

Can't bet on the Travers. All systems go for American Pharoah. Baffert would never send the horse if there were anything wrong. AP does race with an aluminum pad so he has some sort of problem with one of his feet. Probably nothing, but I put in Frosted in the Pick 4 just in case something happens.

As usual, go to the Meet Mr. X page and hit the red Doghouse Confidential button for the Travers Pick 4 ticket: $56 bet for $0.50.

Good luck on a great weather and racing day!

Preakness 2015

Well, we bet all the closers in the Derby expecting a contested pace. Several horses who would have chased just didn't get out. So the top three went around essentially unchanged. American Pharoah did look much the best. Had some really good luck breaking from the 16 post which I did not think could happen. Our horse, Frosted, closed best of all but finished fourth. So it was the front runner's day.

The Preakness looks like a repeat with 8 Firing Line wanting the lead. It could be rainy and muddy so things may change. 1 American Pharoah has the rail and will get close to or will have the lead. I'm betting that these two race around together, but that Firing Line finally gives up in the stretch.

My upset choice for the exacta is 6 Bodhisvatta. Looks like an improving horse. Mud is okay, and he is the only horse who has won here at Pimlico. My numbers say that he is the third best after the top two. But I'm hoping that Firing Line burns out and Bodhisvatta closes to make the exacta.

Haven't figured out the exacta bet yet, but the major bet will be American Pharoah over Bodhisvatta.

Good luck!

International Star Scratched (10:30 am)

12 International Star has been scratched because of a minor foot injury.

Now substitute 2 Carpe Diem for 12 International Star and use 6 Mubtaahij in the $1 tri box.

Good luck!

Doghouse Confidential for Kentucky Derby Posted

I have posted my analysis for the Derby. Looks like great weather.

Very difficult as usual, and I'm betting on the closers picking up the very contested pace.

15 Frosted is my key horse by default. I'm hoping he will make the exacta.

As usual, go to the Meet Mr. X page and click on the red Doghouse Confidential button.

Good luck!

Kentucky Derby Contenders Categorized

Had trouble again accessing my own website, but finally made it.

As I do every year, I have categorized the contenders based on energy distribution and last three furlong times. There are some explanations on the website if you care to get into the details. Remember that this analysis only looks at whether a horse wants to run the 10f of the Derby. There is no consideration of final time and no handicapping the race.

You can access this at the Meet Mr. X page, clicking on the red Doghouse Confidential button.

I will post a Kentucky Derby analysis and betting strategies on Friday night or early Saturday morning.

Good luck to all!
